#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Early, a walk with my son to the brook. Then a swim. Then some work. Frank home in the early afternoon, and so nice to see him. I did something unusual––had an urge to pick some lilacs, blooming purple in the yard. Lilacs remind me so much of my parents, as they were married in lilac season, May 8. and my father had a number of lilac trees, and when they were in bloom he would bring a bunch inside for my mother to enjoy from a vase. So, I found a pitcher I rarely use, it’s one that he won at a golf tournament, and put the flowers in “their” vase. Felt satisfied. Except, I wanted to really acknowledge them. So, I got a small card and wrote: Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. Then Frank and I went on an errand and I bought some herbs and bee balm and butterfly bush to plant. Came home and found that someone had put two candles next to the lilacs and lit them. My daughter. And I felt so happy that I wasn’t the only one honoring their spirits today.
