#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Brook Abstract

The river is still high and all the wetlands are stretched out. Still cannot get over the brook in Rocky Narrows. No swim today. I volunteered to drive Wave to school. This morning Wave asked me what kind of eggs I wanted to make. As it turns out, scrambled eggs in a toasted croissant is his new favorite. So I walked instead of swimming because I didn’t have time to do both before my morning workshop, and that was fine. After craft workshop I led the Israeli Therapist group which was quite powerful. Then, off to the supermarket, the unloading and the dinner prep and serving and cleaning up. I felt like doing all of it, and I had the energy. The weekend away on my manuscript filled me up, and I have enjoyed keeping order in the house since I’ve returned. And my aunt called me on my way home from the supermarket, which was another gift. Because she called to ask me if I would like to keep Brittany––again. And again I got to shout “yes!” And then my uncle thanked me, tearfully too. And I told my sister later that this is a perk for me. Getting thanked and thanked and thanked by my aunt and uncle. Every day when they call I get to say yes, I’d like to keep Brittany! And they are very happy. Today I had this other thought that I shared with my sister. A realization that, for us, my sister and brother and me, them letting us help them has been so satisfying. Because for us it’s like having a chance to support our parents once again. And there are challenges, of course. This transition isn’t easy for them. But they are handling it so well. And my sister and brother have taken on a lot of responsibility. And we all wish, of course, that they didn’t need memory care. But what we are receiving from them right now is quite special. And we’re all grateful for that. And we know Debbie and my mother and father would be glad too. My daughter just came in from a long walk with her boyfriend and tells of the beaver slapping the water at them. I’m tired and satisfied in so many ways with this special day. I hope the beaver has a satisfying night in the dark on the very full Charles River.
