#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

A certain day became a presence to me;
there it was, confronting me--a sky, air, light:
a being. And before it started to descend
from the height of noon, it leaned over
and struck my shoulder as if with
the flat of a sword, granting me
honor and a task. The day's blow
rang out, metallic--or it was I, a bell awakened,
and what I heard was my whole self
saying and singing what it knew: I can.

~ Denise Levertov, Variation on a Theme by Rilke

Even though the foliage where I walk is past its peak, it’s lovely out. They sky and the air so surprisingly warm all day. Pleasantly so, for late October. There was no peace in the boy’s departure today. Nothing helped get him cheerfully out the door. We all have those days. I have very very few of them in this age of life, thank goodness. I had another great mile swim. Mile being my default, it seems. Then no time to walk Charlie. Happy to see my Charles River Writers, in person and online, and we had a very powerful session. Then I had a walk with Charlie to the river, and this made both of us happy because I got a picture I liked int he brook. A busy day, winding up emails and ending my IWWG Fall Play Lab and starting my TLAN Fall Play Lab tomorrow, and then I was free to walk with my daughter and Wave who was in a very happy mood for our late afternoon hike to King Philip’s Overlook where I got a wonderful shot of the sun going down over the river. We played cowboys and horses and camped and returned home nearing dusk. Family dinner, and it was dark, and Frank was grieving the longer days, but I am enjoying them. So so so so sleepy tonight. I dreamed this morning about the snowy owl. it’s going to warm up again and I may well find myself back dipping in Farm Pond over the weekend. I did not work on poems today as I thought. But I did a good bit of dream work on my snowy owl.
