#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Surfers, late afternoon, high tide

So little variation in the weather. Hot, dry, sunny. Maybe a cool breeze in the evening. I wake late, stomach bug, sleep in, skip my walk, doze a lot in the day, by the pool, in the sun, it’s not at all a bad way to feel unwell! In the afternoon, I get an acupuncture treatment from my friend, and then I feel revived. Sitting by the pool I revise my most recent poem––again. I think I’ve made progress. Of course, it’s a poem about New England. I have not written about Costa Rica. I don’t feel as if I know it very well yet. In the late afternoon I walk to the beach. Surfers everywhere, and families and couples and children crowd the happy, relaxed beach at high tide. I think, maybe I’ll walk. Maybe I’ll swim, but instead, I spread out my towel and nap until Frank arrives to watch the sunset by my side. It’s a quieter day; guests from our friend group have gone. Frank and I walk up the dusty dirt road toward our casa. Phone rings, the special one, facetime. I get a long connection where I get to recite nursery rhymes. Frank runs to the organic market two minutes away and then we have a relaxed and impromptu dinner with our friends. We plan a new beach hike for the early morning. When the weather, so predictable, will be all we need it to be.
