#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Clouds again. Wet gloom. But buds on the pussy willow. Buds on the forsythia. An Easter basket left on the hearth in the living room. This made a young person very delighted and surprised. His favorite was the excavator with the claw and the shovel and the drill. He is part boy, part construction machine. I had a long chat with a dear friend as I took my walk. Buds on the trees overhanging the river. And five herons! Five different herons! A heron convention at the river’s edge! Great blues. Very special. Made the walk worthwhile. But no swim. Couldn’t muster it. I know it’s not just me. This weather, a full gray-sky weekend again, is a challenge. I worked a bit on a poem, but Wave wanted to do the Easter egg hunt in the yard that was canceled yesterday. So I went out and hid dozens of eggs for him and he was very happy hunting them down. That was the best part of the day, I think. Except for the herons. Then the day took a dive when I forgot there is red pepper in duck sauce. And I had two bites. Two bites of rice with duck sauce before I realized my mistake and stopped! Threw it away. Hoped for the best. We set up a pickle game with my daughter and Will for 4:00, and plans for dinner with friends after. But those red peppers. Two bites. A ticking time bomb. Finally went off as I approached the pickle court. Tried to play for about five minutes, but, sweetly, Frank drove me home and it was a very uncomfortable rest of a wasted afternoon and evening. I lived to tell about it. Grateful for that!
