Writing from My Photo Stream ~ Kelly DuMar

#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Because I am a lucky grandmother, my day starts early. His energy in my room at 6:00 a.m. is palpable. Quietly, hopefully, he asks: fighting dinosaurs? And is very surprised when I immediately say yes. Let the fighting begin. I set the timer, so we won’t forget to get ready for school. I have to add minutes twice. But then he is most cooperative. This is a blessing. He has really matured so much. There is a pancake to be eaten. He gets dressed. He is easy out the door for my daughter. I’m enjoying writing about my grandson. Because writing about other things like what’s going on in the world is not where my heart is tonight. I met, in my monthly meeting, with my Ukrainian support group. There is deep pain and anger over the treatment of Zelensky. As there should be. I have a writing session after that with a client that is so productive and meaningful. I feel like I have hopeful energy to give the people who are sent my way. I have had my swim, a shorter one. I have been to the river and brook. I have stepped along the path with the deer hoof prints. The ice is going. Tomorrow, with warmth and rain, the brook and wetlands will swell and overflow and drive the ice away. And the snow. Wave keeps asking for spring. Soon. Soon. I pick him up after school. There is an open swimming time at the pool, so we go right there. My second time in the pool today! Making friends in the pool isn’t as easy today. But I have brought some of his toys and I teach him that bringing his own toys, even if he doesn’t want to play with them and would rather play with toys of other kids, it’s the best way to work out an interest in trades. My plan worked. We had fun. He left with only one time extension, or two. And he was offered pizza from the pizza place or grammy’s homemade. Guess which he chose? He chose the one that got me busy with the oven in the kitchen as soon as we got home. Frank home tomorrow to join the fun. We miss him.
