Walking to Farm Pond

Frosted Zucchini Bread with Chocolate Chips and Lavender, by Franci

A luxurious sleep-in until 8:00 a.m. Woke groggy from a deep dream. It stormed last night and rained in. Frank gone. I work on the computer, catching up on communications and such. Planning my upcoming monologue play lab this week, and the September showcases. Some great scripts coming in from participants. Sent out new poems, including to Terrain, and found an amazing photo essay about woodland mushrooms by Melinda Hurst Frye. She writes:

My photographs aim to capture the evolving ecology along the trail I’ve walked throughout my life—a trail that rises and falls with the seasons and nourishes the soil that grows the wonder that surrounds our family. The subjects in these photographs were found near this trail and brought into my studio to rest on a flatbed scanner and release their spores, sometimes over days.

Weeded, weeded, weeded in the hot sun after days of clouds and rain. Oh, the humidity! Yikes! In the late afternoon I felt a nap coming on. But I really also wanted to go to the pond with my daughters. I chose, happily, the walk to Farm Pond through the woods with my daughters and Will, and we talked and talked and then swam a little bit. It was worth it for the conversation. A sweet time. And Franci, at my request, made the frosted zucchini bread - with my home-grown zucchini- which I brought to a dinner with friends, a huge success. A lovely evening of relaxing on a summer night.
