#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
The first thing I like to do these mornings is go to the garden and say hello to all the plants and see how they’re doing. Then, off for a long walk with Charlie before yard work and gardening. On my return, as I entered the yard from Rocky Narrows, I saw the deer who had been scavenging something in the yard staring at me. She knew I wasn’t very happy to wonder what she was up to. She sprang off without me saying a word. I really enjoyed the yard work, going at gardens with energy to trim and weed and cut back overgrowth. It was not too hot, but it was hard work and I didn’t want to stop but knew I should before being too tired. I managed a lot of progress. So gorgeous to be outdoors today. Both my daughters working outdoors and Frank too. The property is so full of life and growth. In the early evening, just as Frank and I were stopping by the garden before going to do errands he saw the painted turtle laying eggs just outside the garden fence. Tonight we went out after dusk to water the garden much later than usual. “The first firefly!” he said. And then I saw many. Happy June first. I love these summery weekends of working outdoors. I was so glad to listen to the Fresh Air Podcast, Terry Gross interviewing Yo-Yo Ma while I was walking today. What an inspiration he is, musically, and also in his philosophy for living. He says that at age sixty seven he is living his best childhood now. Speaking of childhood, I miss Wave. I wanted to show him the turtle. Perhaps there will be another tomorrow.
