#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
I had an extra two hours of sleep because Frank was awake to let Brittany out. Woke at 7:00. Rain. And first, a swim. I was a little taxed after some body work yesterday, but I did my mile and was glad. Then a short walk in the rain with Charlie. I would have gone longer, but I got distracted in a phone call from my sister about my uncle and decided to head to Connecticut to see him in the late afternoon, and that’s where I am tonight. Booked a hotel right next to the memory care place where my aunt is so I can see her first thing in the morning and take her to see him. I drove straight to see my uncle though, and had a wonderful visit with him this evening. He was alert and we had a great conversation. I was sad when he had some misunderstandings about where he is––thinking he was in prison. Wondering if he would be charged with anything. I assured him none of that was true. And I read two letters to him from the archive I have of my father’s letters to his parents. One was from when he was at Mount Hermon, and one was from when he was at Harvard. In both he asked about his brother. In one of them my fathers said, “Tell Bob I hope he has a good time at the prom.” And so I asked my uncle, who did you go to the prom with? And he remembered her name! It was his first date he said. I also asked him many questions about his early life and his mother and father. He talked very cogently and clearly. It really was a wonderful visit, and I know he was glad I was there. Now, I am ready for rest after tucking him in.
