#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Again, the alarm, and I rise immediately, up the elevator, I am alone in the pool and the city lights are colorful in the windows. I have my swimming time, my thinking time, my discipline, my routine, my pleasure. The best way to start a busy day. Then, Jenny and I have coffee in the hotel, walk a few blocks for a second cup, a better cup, at Starbucks. We both have poetry readings today, and we go early to the conference to the quiet room. I choose my poems to read at the Lily Poetry Reading in the late afternoon, and time myself. I am having a great day, a great time at the conference, so stimulating and fun, all day, seeing people I know, meeting people. My reading with Lily is in a crowded cafe, and there are many of us reading. It goes well, in the sense that I feel good about my choices and the reception. Then Jenny and I grab an Uber to go to the venue where she is reading for Tupelo Press. Dinner? What about dinner? I’m starved. Turns out we’re in a creperie. Turns out Tupelo is treating us to a crepe buffet, thank goodness! A savory crepe for dinner, a sweet one for dessert. Jenny does a great reading, and by now we have been to four hours of poetry readings! Home in an Uber. I call Frank and have my heartstrings pulled––he is at Pickle, having dinner after playing, with our kids and friends and I want to be there and here at the same time of course. Perri says it’s just like Wave when he goes out of our house for the weekend––he wants us all to freeze and not do anything he’ll miss out on while he’s gone. Of course I don’t really want that. But, like Wave, yeah, I kind of do! Heading to airport by noon tomorrow and home.
