#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

The Wetlands in Bloom Under Ice

Oh, what a lovely morning. Fresh and bright in the wetlands. How happy I am that the brook is back and the wetlands are wet and the brook runs through them to the river and I can walk over the thick humps of grass and take my time. No hurry today. I woke early and revised my play for the staged reading on Saturday. Saturday! One week from today! I wrote and posted my my weekly substack post, so I felt I had some good work behind me and a fun day ahead of me. My son delighted me by asking me to show him how to make his favorite birthday treat in lieu of cake: Whoopie Pies for his birthday tomorrow. We used the recipe I’ve always used, from my Aunt Virginia to my mother. Tomorrow is his birthday dinner so I packed up the dessert to save for tomorrow. Wave is home, and I made his favorite chicken dinner and we were all together for a nice family meal by the fire and it really was delicious. There was wind this morning. Mild, but noticeable as I passed the little garden where the wind chimes were chiming. We call this Suzi’s garden, our yellow lab for thirteen years. And I always think of Suzi sending a message to us when I hear the chimes. The river was wavy with the mild wind.
