#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Young Snapper

I have always enjoyed listening to people’s dreams from last night. I go in to wake the sleepers for school, and my daughter wakes smiling. She has dreamed of Suzi Q. Suzi Q was an angel, and only she and I could see her. She stayed the weekend, looking after us with her usual intensity of concern. I am happy hearing about this dream, and I feel special to be included in this special ability to see Suzi. Of course, I know it’s because my daughter and I were the ones who sat with Suzi by her side until she drew her last breath. We helped her over to the other side together. And we helped each other, by sharing this really emotional challenge, that morning in July last year. My grandson is ready for hot chocolate and breakfast after the dream sharing. And then they are out the door on time, and Charlie and I have a lovely walk. We find a young snapper on the railroad tracks by the wetlands. And a few steps further along, the shell of a snapper that expired, probably a few days ago. Life and death. Seems to be a theme of the morning. Today is a lighter day. There is a beautiful breeze, and it’s cooler. It’s beautiful, these last days of summer. I ride my bike to Millis where I meet my friend for a long, relaxing chat over lunch. There is stormy weather coming towards us from this hurricane that will be on the islands tomorrow. We seem to be turning Friday nights into pickle ball fun with family and friends. I think a lot about poems and poetry and my manuscript today––it’s on my mind all day, for better or worse, but no writing. Two wet kisses on my cheek, magic. I am napping on the chaise in the yard in the late afternoon. Who is that, kissing me, waking me up? Yes, my grandson, home from school. He is helping his grandfather mow on the tractor. I fall pleasantly back asleep, and soon enough, there is a bonus kiss. A second one from the special one.
