#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

. . . and the lilies again are spread across the water.
I know now what they want is to touch each other. . .

~ Mary Oliver, Excerpt from “The Pond”

Another gorgeous summer day, and a walk, early, to greet it. Charlie is happy. It’s already hot. We cross the trestle and go through the meadow, and then along the railroad tracks next to the wetlands where they are filled with fresh, brand new, pink and white lily pads in bloom. I go through the brush down the little slope to get as close as I can. They spread across the whole area. They are awesome and a sign of a peaceful day. I go to the garden on my return. The yellow squash have come in, and I see that I will pick them for dinner later. My swim comes in the late afternoon with my daughter after I treat her to a pedicure and a trip to her favorite tea spot, Nirvana, in Mills, and before we go to see an open house nearby that she’s interested in. She swims five minutes faster than me! We go to Farm Pond and I have a good swim around the island and back, but, truly, the water is too warm today to be refreshing. Still, I’m glad we went, and she is too. “I always feel better after a swim,” she remembers. It’s so good to get this one-on-one time with her. And she loves the house, the location, the town, the street, especially. Her boyfriend then comes to have a look, and the three of us look together. It’s in their price range. But will there be a bidding war, as there usually is? Possibly. Tomorrow we’ll return for another look with Frank. Dinner with friends and we grilled the vine ripe yellow squash––superb. It’s so good to be home. It’s so good to be home. It’s so good to be home.
