#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Arrival, Arc de Triomphe, Paris
THIS IS THE POST FOR SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2023
Yesterday, we leave for the airport in the afternoon. I watered the garden, planted four hosta that needed to get in the ground. I went for a swim before all of that and did my laps, not feeling quite as energized as the prior two days. I walked to the brook, the deep green lively full brook under the leafy tree canopy, and I hoped I would have a chance to say goodbye to Papa Mallard, but he was nowhere in sight. What a hot day! I hated watering at such a terrible time, but it needed to be done. I said a prayer for the survival of all the tomatoes and pumpkins and eggplant and peas and beans and sunflowers––mostly the tomatoes. Oh, the tomatoes that will be, I hope, ripe some day soon, and then we will eat them. So many things can happen to a garden while one is away. I decided in my prayer to just make it all about acceptance. Because I will replant anything that doesn’t make upon my return. We sleep on the plane, crossing the ocean. It’s light out when we reach Paris morning. Burst of sunshine, and the taxi swings past the Arc de Triomphe as we make our way across the Seine to our friend’s flat.
