#NewThisDay Writing From My Yoga Stream

King Philip’s Overlook

I let my daughter sleep in and spend the morning spontaneously with my grandson who is up early, as I am. Breakfast of dipping eggs and an early hike. We have to wear our boots as the brook is still overflowing the trail. My boots are not high enough, as we cross, with me carrying him, and so I have ice water to walk in after we wade through. We have a slow, lingering walk with dinosaurs and alligators and many other creatures. He is sparked by imagining everything, and I am one who goes along with what he is seeing and experiencing internally. We climb to King Philip’s Overlook. Today, we have real hot chocolate, not pretend, as I have wisely packed a thermos of it for him to enjoy with a view. It’s sunny and I remove my boots and dump out the water and let my feet dry a bit in the sun. He puts my boots into the “fire” to dry them off. This time outdoors talking about what matters to him is exactly where I want to be, and the best part of my day. I take time off in the afternoon, and then we babysit tonight so my daughter can go out. I trim the tree and we finish decorating. Frank cooks swordfish, we eat by the fire. Then we go to the yard under the light of the stars, looking for coyotes. We can see our breath and the ground is crunchy hard. The coyotes are smart enough to steer clear of us. We’ve started the day and ended the fine day in the great outdoors. Frank said the sweetest thing to me at dinner. Someone at the morning meeting asked if you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with? and he said me!
