#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Sarah Lee Guthrie at the City Winery, Boston
For her family, sharing stories through song is a way of life, of being and existing with divine purpose in the world. The art of storytelling is in her blood, it always has been, and it always will be. Guthrie says preserving that tradition and its power to unite and connect us all is more crucial now than ever before as the music landscape continues to grow and evolve.
Sunday, no need to rush out of bed. I have time to send my weekly prompt. Then I swim, a long swim, and a nice one, even though a swim team is practicing and the the water is quite stirred up, the coaches have loud voices and it’s less peaceful than it normally is. No time to walk Charlie, my youngest does it. My other daughter and I are off to Boston for a noon-time concert at the City Winery. Frank is sick, and doesn’t join us. We see Sarah Lee Guthrie, our love of folk music is shared. She is Woody Guthrie’s grandaughter, Arlo’s daughter, and the concert is really fun. She performs with a group called the Mammals, a folk revival band. We have so much fun sharing the time in the car, talking all the way in, all the way home. And Frank is still not feeling well. I make dinner for everyone else, and we eat by the fire and the boy comes home and it’s dark early and the house is cheerful. I’m grateful for a lovely day.
