#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”
― Anais Nin, The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Vol. 1: 1931-1934

To wake in a new place, and see scenery, luscious, wonderful scenery, the first morning, that wasn’t seen the night before, in the dark, is so much fun. I see the beach in the distance, the one I will walk to momentarily. I am up; Frank is up, because he is running his morning meeting back in the US and has risen earlier than me. I don’t see him. The house is quiet. I slip out in my flip flops and bathing suit. I head down the dirt road, and find the path with a hand painted sign: Playa Palada. I have walked this dirt path once before, last year. I just head down. I am meeting my dear friend from San Francisco who is staying this week in a different lodging. We will meet on the beach to walk. We have not seen each other since November. I guess my way along and emerge on Playa Palada. She is on Playa Guiones and we walk toward each other for five minutes before seeing each other off in the distance by the edge of the rolling sea in bright morning sunshine. What a delicious feeling, to run toward my friend in this foreign country where we have lovely memories. We walk and walk and talk and talk and then a swim and a walk back. We are lost in the conversation. It’s already quite hot, the tide is in, some surfers are out. We part til later. Frank picks me up and we go out to breakfast, he and I and my other dear friend and we talk and talk. I am hoarse. Not from talking, but from some type of virus. I feel fine and sound hoarse. A lovely breakfast, then back to the casa, and a long nap and some swimming. How happy we are all to be here together, what joy and camaraderie. Out to dinner, and we toast to this special trip, this shared love of travel, our history of years of friendship, of knowing each other and each other’s children and extended families and challenges and struggles and joys. . . there is a half moon and a starlit sky and a warm breeze. And delicious conversation and togetherness.
