#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Morning, Brickyard Beach

Earth wanted very much the rain that fell most of the day. I had an early first walk with Charlie, a shorter one, straight down the dirt road to the Brickyard beach. What a calm Sound! Flat, noiseless, peaceful water. And the seaweed mostly gone. I took a swim in the aloneness of it all. There was dampness, and the sense of rain coming. I went home, saw my client, and then headed back, before noon, for another, longer walk that Charlie and I both wanted. That’s when the rain came. Beach deserted. Such a windless, pleasant wetness of drops. I went in the water because I have to swim in the rain at least once while I’m here. The water is comfortably cool and unripped and so clear I can see the hundreds of color variations in the smooth rocks that line bottom. Quite a refreshment. Poor Charlie, wetter and wetter, waiting on shore. He got a good and hearty drying when we got back. I worked today, happily, finishing up details on the manuscript. Heard from my son who will return tomorrow. Possibly other family over the weekend too. Frank and i into Oak Bluffs tonight for a quick dinner; I have a meeting after. Then the quiet and cheerful ride home from town into the darkness and crickets and cloud covered moon. So grateful for the good drenching today.
