#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Turtle Time

First things first: Suzi to the vet for a chest x-ray. I drop her and then head out with Charlie for our walk. Fresh and moist air, growing warm and already sun brightly on. We go through the overgrown meadow after crossing the trestle bridge. No anxiety for Charlie today. I find a turtle from the wetlands on the railroad tracks. Before we’re home I get a call and Suzi is done and all looks well and I can pick her up! While I’m waiting for the tech to bring her out, in the waiting room, I hear one tech say to the other, “Would you mind taking her out? She’s very nice.” Suzi, what a lady. And ready for her breakfast after a fast. Best part of my day was the meeting I had with my editor from Lily Press about my manuscript. Got to talk over the vision for the project, and I needed this. Came away very focused and motivated. Will have it to her by October. I really enjoyed the chance to connect on this project with someone I trust and like and respect. And I got a wonderful swim in, early afternoon. Forgot my goggles, so my eyes are a bit sore. But, what a swim! Swam a mile and the water was quite choppy from a hard breeze blowing over the surface. The sailboats were having a blast. I swallowed more than my share of pond water. It’s good for me, I think. It was a rollicking time in the chop and I felt terrific when I returned to shore, feeling I could have gone more. My youngest made dinner tonight, so I relaxed with the Special One in the late afternoon yard. We sat by the frog pond. All the big frogs have been gone for a couple of weeks. But there are three little frogs who peek up from the green algae with eager curiosity about the world they are living in; and much trepidation for the tiny hands that reach out for them––and they are too swift, too swift in a flash under the surface. Tiny heads pop back up, down and up, down and up, it’s quite a pleasant pastime and no living being is injured. I have digested all the news of the world today, all the troubles and loss and pain and injustice reported. Here is the news of the frog pond: three new thriving happy frogs came from tadpoles left by the big frogs who once lived here. For today, we keep each other company.
