#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Evening garden delight

A special someone is awake at 5:30 and wants to be in the yard. It’s fresh, damp, cool and pleasant. I bring my bowl of granola and banana out and we share it. Then, to the garden where all the plants get a drink. He eats the last pea from the vine. We watch the birds in their morning rituals above the meadow, walk to the river. He says, “hot,” because he sees the steamy fog rising. Charlie, who is having a big drink, knows the river is refreshingly cool. Later, I have two clients and a phone call and that wraps up my work for the July 4 weekend. Time for a delicious swim in the 90 degree heat. I go to Farm Pond and take my 45 minutes, so relaxing and energizing. The enclosure we bought for the shower arrives; Frank assembles it in the heat. It’s cedar and smells delicious. We all like it. I’m the one who would have been happiest without it, but I like it too. I am not feeling celebratory about the 4th. I am feeling angry about the Supreme Court and the outrage of the unjust change of a law that restricts women’s liberty and privacy. It’s unacceptable.
