Egg Layer

Wild Rose

Wake up, still on Paris time. It’s around 4:00 a.m. Frank is up as well. It’s raining, and I’m glad. Everything getting a pollen rinse and a good wholesome watering. All the clutter of returning home to wade through. First, a walk, with my passenger. My most special passenger with me out into a light rain. And the sight of so much on the property blooming! All the roses, many azaleas, some rhododendrons, the laurel, some hydrangea, the milkweed, the magnolia––and the peonies drooping extravagantly to the wet ground. A heron on the river in flight. I am so, so happy to be home on the river. Along the railroad tracks we see two turtles laying eggs in the gravel. Crossing the river, spot the muskrat who lives near the trestle bridge. Charlie is so happy for this time with us, and crosses with us, no anxiety. The lily pads are gorgeous in the wetlands. The lawn is high, the weeds overtaking all the gardens. But I will get to it when I can. It will all get done. I have a day with the special one to focus on.
