#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Eager to be up and out into the cool sunshine for my walk around the neighborhoods and up the roads of Camelback. The royal palms are strange amidst the cactus, of course. They are not native to Arizona, and I’m not sure how they got here. I have a wonderful walk, and end up walking to get coffee in a little outdoor mall area, then walking back. I have time to work on a poem revision for Monday night in the quiet of the room before going to the business retreat with Frank at lunchtime. It’s a fun and interesting afternoon, exploring the business project, and then I run the Journal of Expressive Writing Open Mic, featuring my friend, Hilton Koppe, reading from his new book, One Curious Doctor. His presentation is so moving, about being diagnosed with PTSD after forty years of practicing medicine as a country doctor. Also, his family history and ancestry, descending from Lithuanian Jews, many of whom died in the holocaust, and how his grandparents migrated to South Africa, and his family eventually settling in Australia. Fascinating. Then, I rushed off to the restaurant for the business dinner with Frank and everyone with the retreat, and that was friendly and relaxing and delicious. I am getting excited about Thanksgiving week, family time, home time. The beginning of the holiday season and festivity. It’s fun to feel that Frank and I are, on this trip, revisiting earlier phases of relationship when we worked together and traveled together. It’s refreshment and stimulation.
