Evening on The Charles

We were all packed and in the car toward home at 8 a.m. Eager, yes, to return. And how happy we all are to be home. Tonight, all of ate together on the porch, even my son. What a warm day. So much unpacking and organizing and appreciating the beautiful newness of our home. Chaos, yes, and the yard and the river to calm. In the late afternoon, as I walked to the quiet river for the first time today, my youngest called and asked if I wanted to go for a kayak. It was just getting dark, the sky over the river was pink going black. We dragged down the kayaks and just as she was launching, guess who jumped into the front at her feet! Well, she decided to let him stay, as long as he didn’t rock the boat; even when the beaver just ahead slapped his tail in warning at us. This was the exact medicine for this day. The water was so calm. The air was so still and warm. How happy we are to be home!
