The morning brook—Under the Blue

Why make so much of fragmentary blue In here and there a bird, or butterfly, Or flower, or wearing-stone, or open eye, When heaven presents in sheets the solid hue? Since earth is earth, perhaps, not heaven (as yet)— Though some savants make earth include the sky; And blue so far above us comes so high, It only gives our wish for blue a whet.

~ Fragmentary Blue, Robert Frost

Even before I was dressed and out the door, my youngest, on her way to work, warned me of the cold. Gloves, she said. Wear them, and more. And, so I did, and needed them, too. Except, it was more pleasant than I imagined or expected. Sunshine made such a difference; the river and the brook, thinly layered with ice, shone so cheerfully blue. So, blue above and below, and I drank it in as much as I could to start a busy indoors day. Prep for two groups starting this week: tonight and tomorrow. And sent some poems in for a workshop I’m attending for myself Saturday. Had to make a choice, thought it would be hard, then, just did it. Also, revised and prepped by IWWG Summer Play Lab description and sent that in. Did my best to ignore the clutter and disrepair of this household; my clothes, cleaned and returned our safely stored in the unit on the lawn. I haven’t had time to see them yet! Tonight, my group was a delicious meal, filling me up. The writers so intimate and engaging. Gratifying to know that they left feeling fed as well. I listened to the weather forecast today––rain and wind but very warm, and I imagined myself running in the wetness and the wind feeling so pleasantly blown and pelted, washed and restored.
