First Monday of the new year, a bustle and business in the house. I am eager for this transition; two groups starting this week. Outside, it’s cold, cold cold. My tolerance has weakened, momentarily. I get no pictures in this dry and frigid landscape. So be it. I settle for this one: a lovely piece of driftwood I brought home from Point Reyes in California, topped by a favorite white beach stone found in Chilmark on Vineyard Sound––arranged for my evening meditation. My head swims with nursery rhymes this time of night when I have the priviledge of reciting the dozens and dozens I know by heart in the dark, quiet room where a little one who loves to hear them is listening.
