Ferry taking off from Oak Bluffs, Evening Walk
Gate in shadow and light
Tonight, after dinner at my brother and sister-in-law’s house we drive into Oak Bluffs and walk around after dark, watching the harbor and all the busy tourist activity. A lovely warm breeze, a half moon in a starry sky, and the colorful lights of the ferry departing the dock for Woods Hole. The blessing of this trip has been the extended time with my brother and his family, and their hospitality after a year and more of having really seen very little, or virtually, none of each other. And all the memories of Vineyard summers and holidays here for over thirty years. Having our girls with us, them having time with cousins. It has been a strange trip of hotel hopping, a patchwork of them, to make the long weekend work, and worth it, for this special reunion. I had a wonderful walk early this morning from Lambert’s Cove Inn, down the long dirt road in the pines, and up the street to Lambert’s Cove beach where all the dogs of the island are welcome with their humans before the clock strikes 10:00 a.m. So many many happy dogs romping in the sand and surf, dogs of every shape, size, breed, personality, and all joyful to be in their happy place on Vineyard Sound. Sadly, mine not with me. But, home to them soon. Biggest relief of this trip––no mosquitos!
