Tree budding over the Charles

Awake just after sunrise, I see out the window, over the river, to a plate of purple clouded sky. I am eager to walk in this spring-like weather. Trees in bud at the river’s edge. The mallards are nesting, Mr. & Mrs., and every morning and afternoon they paddle away from shore as I approach. What rich deep blueness is over the woods, above trees today. And, over my mood. I hear good news, my son has a vaccine scheduled! And my daughter as well. We will all be fully vaccinated soon. My French pussy willow tree in my yard that I planted so many years ago is flourishing––I find it in my favorite stage, sprung from gray to extravagant yellow against the cloudless blue. I go to Thurs. morning poetry workshop with a poem, an erasure, that I have revised for years, and I am not sure how it will be received. How pleased I am to see that it’s finally, finally working. I have some tweaks to make to it. We’re all so pleased to be there reading and commenting on each other’s poems, such richness. I am so blue-skied joyful this spring day. Tomorrow begins the birthday weekend of my youngest. My April baby. Grown woman. Ahhhh.
