#NewThisDay Writing from My Photo Stream

Commonwealth Ave, Boston

Imagination! who can sing thy force?
Or who describe the swiftness of thy course?
Soaring through air to find the bright abode,
Th' empyreal palace of the thund'ring God,
We on thy pinions can surpass the wind,
And leave the rolling universe behind:
From star to star the mental optics rove,
Measure the skies, and range the realms above.
There in one view we grasp the mighty whole,
Or with new worlds amaze th' unbounded soul.

~ Phillis Wheatley

Oh dear, waking with the cold. No possibility for a walk. Instead, getting ready for a special brunch in the city with my friend who moved away and our writing group from Farm Pond gathering for a casual reunion. Fitting that we should stroll toward brunch down Comm. Ave where the festive holiday lights are being strung on the trees, and run into the wonderful Boston Women’s Memorial that none of us had ever seen before: Abigail Adams, Phillis Wheatley and Lucy Stone. So, we visited them for awhile in the cool November air. Then, a delicious and warm brunch reconnecting. Thanksgiving seemed so far away when my friend left in late August––and, here we are! Meanwhile, my family met for a walk around Walden Pond in Concord, and I’m glad they did. My daughter jumped in, of course! Not sure even I would have jumped in today with this cold had I been with them. Arrived home and fell into bed for a long wintry sleep. After dark, woke up and felt flooded with a cheerfulness I had been trying to feel all day. Even a common cold brings such mood swings. Frank and I went for a short walk to the river at dark and I felt the golden light of the city trees lasting in my chest.
