#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Suzi in the sun
Awake so early after sleeping late, the tiredness will linger today. But not by the river, under the sunshine of this bitter cold. This morning the river is iced except for a slim ribbon of center. A dangerous partial freeze, looking more solid than it is. I have bundled and layered and it’s early, but I’m not so cold that I want to go in right away. The dogs don’t mind it either. We are in a cold spell, wind chills of low levels. Now the challenge of winter grows, and it’s still January. All the interesting ice is under a thin layer of powder. I see the full moon, while wafer in the pinkish sky above the evergreen pines over the house. Tonight my daughter says, after dark, Wow! Everyone, come see! Now the wolf moon, a howling freezing moon is white light rounded behind black trees, low in the sky: shared icy haunting spectacle of winter.
