“Love set you going like a fat gold watch.

The midwife slapped your footsoles, and your bald cry

Took its place among the elements…”

~ Excerpt from “Morning Song,” by Sylvia Plath

Metal gray sky, no sunrise of color. Oh, January. But still, the air is fresh, the river reflects the trees and ripples in a breeze and tree bark is designed for fascination. I walked in the damp, the damp wetting into my bones. Suzi joined us and we walked to the swampy wetlands where I found some lingering patches of ice, but no pretty pictures. But a literary journal, 3 Elements Review, let me know today that they selected two of my ice images for publication in their upcoming themed edition, which was a nice surprise. And after dinner with a dear friend, I went to a playback theatre show on the theme of “Making Visible the Invisible Work of Mothers,” led by my friend, the psychologist Kumkum Malik, and featuring True Story Theater, and my very own actor/daughter. The show was deeply moving. Only mothers telling stories in the audience. It was soul stirring and so nourishing to be in this sacred space for storytelling and honoring women’s stories, lives, pain, joy, wisdom and transformation.
