Pebbles in the Charles

Pebbles in the Charles

“So absolute, it is
no other than
happiness itself, a breathing
too quiet to hear."
-  Denise Levertov, excerpt from The Breathing

Such a fun dream, to be inside an episode of “Bonus Family,” a Swedish television show I’ve watched and loved. As if I was acting in it as I was writing an episode. I wake from this dream early and find Frank is up, wide awake, and we have coffee and I tell him my dream and we talk for an hour before he has to leave. Outdoors, Suzi seems to be joining us, but changes her mind. I let her back in. The ice is gone, the river is so so still, and the river under Death bridge is a blue blur with red lights of cars passing over. It’s warm, and it’s winter, and I’m happy to be walking and walking in the messy woods. I am thinking about my breast feeding poem, revising it in my head. Indoors, I make my revisions. I don’t know, now, if I’m making this poem better. I hope so. There is no Monday workshop tonight and I miss it. My guest blog for the Dallas Writer’s Workshop , “Writing Inspiration in Winter Photos” is published. Yes, it is warmer. But I miss the ice.
