#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

“I started keeping a diary, which I called ‘the life book’. I began with the idea of writing one short entry each day, just a line or two, describing something good. I suppose by ‘good’ I must have meant something that made me happy or brought me pleasure.”
Sally Rooney, Beautiful World, Where Are You

Good morning second day of autumn. This is a day for a walk in the fresh air. I decide not to swim. Want to be near the trees, leaves, water, foliage. I walk the river’s edge with views from one bridge to the other. Charlie is with me, slowly, with me. The brook is still bone dry, black muddy bottom and a few red cardinal flowers last on the edge. Acorns dropping. It’s Monday, a busy week ahead. I have worked, from waking early, on my new poem. At workshop I see how much more work it needs, but I also feel very glad that I got a framework, ideas to work from. From poetry to taxes. All afternoon, the taxes. At desk til they were done. Then, off to the post office. A short nap. And my daughter makes lettuce wraps, thank goodness, delicious, and I make rice and broccoli and it’s easy. Tonight, my poetry peers. I bring a previously revised poem, as I want to work on the new one. I think the poem I brought tonight is done. And day is done. And my pictures from today are giving me peace for sleep. A rooster crowed at the break of dawn. At dinner time, we saw him, strutting in our yard. A black rooster, wild and lost. Seems to be considering a new home.
