#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Morning Brook

May-Flower by Emily Dickinson

Pink — small — and punctual —
Aromatic — low —
Covert — in April —
Candid — in May —

Dear to the Moss —
Known to the Knoll —
Next to the Robin
In every human Soul —

Bold little Beauty
Bedecked with thee
Nature forswears
Antiquity —

Summery air, windows wide all night. Hungry dogs. Nice sleep. Doors open. Wave smoothly out the door. I do heaps of housework, getting house back in order, then Charlie and I take a short walk to the river and the brook. All my pansies are healthy and my herbs recently planted too. I swam a good swim and then worked on poetry before picking Wave up from school with my youngest, and we went to Farm Pond. Sunny summery Farm Pond, and Wave jumped right in. We played in the sand. Dug Wave a big hole, filled it with water, he sat in it and the walls crumbled. A sweet girl nearby came right over, hearing his howls, and said, “I’ll help you!” She knelt down in the sand, said, my name is Carolyn, and soon the walls were fixed. See how it’s better when someone helps? she asked. Then she asked me to tell her what my house looks like, what street I live on. Then she told me to please tell her mother what my house looks like. And I did. But it was time to go, and I was sorry to have to leave as she was so conversant and interesting and helpful. I’m sure we’ll see her again. Wave needed some extra help getting up the hill to the parking lot, and one year ago, I could carry him easily up this hill! Tonight, a simple dinner, and then I worked on revising a poem and I was feeling discouraged but I am very happy now with the revision. Surprised.
