#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

I was worried about Fudgy this morning. Is he safe at night from coyotes? I didn’t hear him crow at all. Fed the dogs. Frank left early for his meeting. I looked around the yard. Didn’t see him anywhere. Was surprised he wasn’t at the front door for his breakfast. Texted everyone to see if anyone had seen Fudgy. Got a no from my son. I took my walk, to the river. More lovely October sun. Tried to think about a poem for tomorrow but couldn’t get inspired. Went for my swim. Swam with Wave too. My daughter got up and said she and Wave had been woken up at 5:00 a.m. by his crowing, and Wave, worried, nudged her and said, “I think Fudgy’s in trouble.” They checked on him; he was fine. And, sure enough. he was. Tonight when I got home my daughter told me how cute it was––Wave had a friend over and Fudgy played with them in the yard! I drove to Somerville, still without a poem for tomorrow, to hear my friend Jenny Grassl read from her new book, and it was a very nice event in someone’s garage turned poetry room. Doors wide open, the wonderful warmth and fresh air. Last night I downloaded a new novel by Jayne Anne Phillips: Night Watch, winner of the 2024 Pulitzer Price in fiction. Last night, going off to sleep, I was disappointed. Could not get into it. But today, riding to and from Somerville, I was able to focus and have fallen in love with it. After dinner, after cleaning a very messy Sunday everyone’s home kitchen, I managed to revise a poem for tomorrow. I may work on it more in the early morning. I have a very busy week full of events, and I’m looking forward to them all.
