#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
"It is deep January. The sky is hard. The stalks are firmly rooted in ice."
- Wallace Stevens
Red sunrise out the morning window. Promise of a cold, but snowless day. Ice on the river. I visited the wetlands with Charlie after my swim. Pure discipline gets me out the door for my swim in this January weather. The pool is warm. The trick is to just go and not to think about the cold. I am listening to a wonderful memoir recommended by my friend:
Hollywood Park, A Memoir, by Mikel Jollet
Hollywood Park is a remarkable memoir of a tumultuous life. Mikel Jollett was born into one of the country’s most infamous cults and subjected to a childhood filled with poverty, addiction, and emotional abuse. Yet, ultimately, his is a story of fierce love and family loyalty told in a raw, poetic voice that signals the emergence of a uniquely gifted writer.
Today I got my January newsletter finalized and sent, which always feels like a significant organizational feat. Done! And my friend who is visiting me is my Israeli Therapist Support Group co-facilitator, so we ran the group from different rooms in my house. And walked down the hall to connect afterwards. In the late afternoon I enjoyed making a nice meal for family dinner, and everyone enjoyed it, and it’s the last night my friend is here, so it was special to all have the time together. Early dinner, short day, long night. January freeze.
