#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Friday night I saw my nephew, Dusty III. He said he had a plan to do a polar plunge with my daughter on Sunday morning, 8:00 a.m. Farm Pond. I said I was in. And set my alarm to swim my laps at the pool before going home briefly, grabbing Charlie, and getting to Farm Pond, just on time. As it turned out, my daughter didn’t come, but my friend, Po, did and we all met on the beach. The water is high to the lifeguard chairs! We all noticed what looked like a film of ice on the lake, but we assumed it was thin and would easily break. We got ready, we ran in, and immediately our legs stung in paid. We were breaking through ice and it felt like nails! Smartly, I figured out to run behind Dusty who as breaking through before me, and we quickly dunked, all in. On the beach, poor Po had the most cuts––her legs were covered with small scrapes. Dusty and I had a few. It was hilarious fun. My legs are still tingling. We quickly got to our cars again to heat up. And, invigorated, plan our next one. And I had a strong day with my poetry manuscript, hours of good revision. I felt so productive. Before dinner with my daughter and her boyfriend I walked Charlie under the cold crescent moon. To be present, to be awake, to be aware, to be grateful for this special day, especially the morning laughter.
