#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Inches of water in my gardening wagons. Four? So much rain yesterday. I won’t need to water today, the ground is soaked. The flowers and vegetables are thriving. And so too are the weeds. I must surrender to them for now. It’s a busy traveling week and I have not gotten to it. Frank gone early, before I’m up. And I linger in bed, linger at my computer, a slow wake up. I go out with Charlie after getting some work done, for a hot walk in the pleasant sun, and a trip to the garden to pick what is ready to be picked. I am so excited about my pumpkin crop! These beautiful plants are spreading their vines and blooming their blossoms so wildly, such a bright electric yellow bloom, they are so forcefully gaining space. Now, if they can survive whatever threats may still face them. For now, nothing has poached their blossom. Many of my sunflowers still heighten each day; I didn’t lose them all to some nibbler, I think, deer. I decide to delay my swim at the pond til after lunch when my two daughters and grandson make our way cheerfully there. I say, as we’re leaving the car, “Last one in’s a rotten egg!” and Wave says, “Oh no, we left our rotten eggs at home.” Hmmm. Let it be noted: he was the first one in. I was the last. Then my youngest daughter watched him so his mother and i could swim to the island and back. It was hard to break away, but I had clients online that I wanted to see. Tonight, some packing. My youngest makes dinner! Quiche with the zucchini from the garden. I will get everything done that I need to get done. I always do.
