#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Summer morning Brook Reflection
Sun. Yay. A dry day with heat. I go early to swim a good swim. Charlie and I walk. There are pods on my milkweed plants. Then it’s time to have my Ukraine group, which is small, but we go deep. That tends to be the way it goes. In the afternoon I have time to write and a closed door. And a long warm up, finding my way back. A blank dryness, but I don’t give up. I read some poems and I am patient. I stay at my computer all the intended time. Toward the end, I feel a bit of a spark, and that’s enough. I break for the grocery store and a nice dinner for the family. Swordfish and tomatoes and zucchini from the garden. We eat outdoors in the pleasant evening. The day has been well balanced. I clean up and go to Town Meeting a few minutes away. I never go to town meeting! But a friend who owns a farm in town has sent out a request for support. The board is supposed to vote on a special permit they have submitted. The room is full, many supporters, and I’m glad I am there. I thought I might be bored No chance. There is plenty of drama. Some of the board members are defensive. My friend makes a wonderful speech about their proposal for their farm and there is applause. There is hope for a compromise. And then there is more conflict and delay. The meeting ends without any determination. Small town politics at work. Their organic farm and agri-tourism business deserve support. And I hope they get the green light that they seek soon.
