Sunrise out the window this morning. And sunset out the window too. When I was in Nosara, I was outside for both. Now is the time of driveway ice and muddy feet as the soil thaws and the snow melts. I didn’t walk Charlie, exactly, today. Well, we walked the yard and the driveway all afternoon as the special one played outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine. And I did get my early swim in the busy pool and was happy with my laps. Then back to the pool with the special one, who had quite an active day. And I was a bit waterlogged, in a good way, by the end of it. My youngest has gone to Italy; the house is quieter. I packed in my head and organized for my trip to Seattle Wed., early, for AWP—the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference. Last time I was registered for AWP, with flights and hotel arranged, COVID came suddenly roaring in. I was to go to San Antonio, TX. What a chaotic and confusing time, to make the decision: to go or not to go. So many unknowns that early March of 2020. That time of what the heck is happening here, and no vaccinations or boosters even in anyone’s imagination yet. I canceled, and trust that it was the right thing for me to do. This year, I’m excited to go and celebrate the launch of my new book with Lily Poetry Review Books.
