#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

And a rain ran wild with open eyes.

~ From “Drishti,” by Paul Nemser

Only a bit of snow, yet it causes school delays. Not closure. It doesn’t stop me. The road to the pool is just fine. I clear the snow off my car and my daughter’s car and go. I am dragging in my laps. Ugh. I want to stop, but I keep going. I keep going into my energy and end up swimming a mile unexpectedly. So, I’m pleased. And it’s still not snowing that much, but there is ENOUGH for me to take Charlie and go out into the fresh soft snow for a x-county ski under the trees, along the black river where the swans stand out bright white. It’s warmish and lovely. Later, when I am on Zoom, running my Ukrainian support group, it’s snowing heavily outside my window. It’s a powerful group, as usual. Charlie has an ear infection, so we go to the vet for medicine, and I have hot chocolate at Starbucks with a dear friend. Even our short visit is worthwhile. I am prepping for Charles River Writers tomorrow and a trip to the video studio to continue work on my book trailer recording tomorrow. Sadly, tonight, the news of Paul Nemser’s death––a workshop friend from Monday nights who has been ill for a long time, but whose poetry is alive and thriving and I am so grateful I got to learn from Paul’s writing and feedback.

Poems are enlivening, illuminating encounters with people from all over the world, from the beginning of time until now. Reading poetry allows me to understand what it means to be human. ~
