Slow rising. Quite tired. But I want my swim. And I’m glad to have it. A packing day, and I never get Charlie to the river. I keep thinking the day will break open a slot for a walk, but it fills up with meetings online and calls with friends and time with the special one. Goldilocks is a favorite and I am requested to tell it again and again. Tonight, a really special invitation from our friends and neighbors, Paul & Linda DeRensis, to attend the annual town firefighter’s dinner. Awards are being given out, including one for the saving of our house on Christmas Eve, 2021. Frank and I get to say a few words. Such a humbling experience to listen to the praise for the firefighters and EMT’s and rescuers of the town. And listening to the recounting of our fire, from the firefighting perspective, is a bit surreal. How full of gratitude we are, a year later, to have our house, to have it put back together, to have it so wonderfully reconstructed. I saw a dear friend of my parents’ tonight, which was sweet. Powering on in her elderly years, living alone in the big house she shared with her husband, independent as heck. It’s always touching to greet people who spent happy times with my parents.
