#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Evening at the Brook

Through the window, a bright May Day. I wake after a thick night’s sleep. My muscles weary and my head a bit groggy, I stay in bed and write my weekly Aim for Astonishing prompt. I must get going to brunch at our neighbors’ house. Frank and I stroll over in the sunshine. In the afternoon, I rake the garden and area around it that I planted from my friend’s plants gifted late August last year. Many wagons of pine needles. It’s hot in the sun, I work in the shade. Get the whole thing done. Still working my way around the gardens, but that’s enough for today. It’s such a pleasant day for a late afternoon lounge in the sun on the chaise. After dinner, a stroll across the field to the river with Frank. He is leaving again tomorrow. We stop by the brook. The red maples reflect in the fading blue as dusk approaches. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard skim quietly off down the stream to more privacy. It’s bedtime for the Special One. I read, of course, Make Way For The Ducklings, where another Mr. & Mrs. Mallard nest on the city end of the river where it meets Boston Harbor.
