Bluebird in Tree Bark, Vernal Equinox

An art school being used as a shelter in the besieged city of Mariupol has been bombed by Russian forces, according to Mariupol city council in a statement on its Telegram channel.

About 400 people were sheltering in the building, which was destroyed in the attack, the council said.

Information on casualties is still unclear but people remain trapped under the rubble.

From CNN's Yulia Kesaieva and Andrew Carey in Lviv

“Remember that all through history, there have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they seem invincible. But in the end, they always fall. Always.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

First day of spring. I take Charlie and Suzi, and on my back, the Special One. As soon as the door opens, birdsong. Clouds cover and clear; geese honk exuberantly from the river. Iceless river and wetlands. I find a photo in tree bark. Appears as a bluebird, token of spring. All day I think about a poem I may draft, and fear that it won’t come. In the afternoon, begin with some rough ideas, some notes. This evening, a draft, a mothering poem. It’s enough for tonight; I will look again in the morning, fresh eyes. It seems I will have something to bring to workshop. House too quiet without Frank who regularly checks in. It’s here, it’s here, it’s here. Spring. I find this wonderful animation of the Charles Bukowski poem, “Bluebird,” on Maria Popova’s blog, and it reminds me of my own bluebird, found in the tree bark.

This mesmerizingly beautiful animated adaptation of the [Charles Bukowski Bluebird] poem by Cambridge School of Art student Monika Umba is the perfect piece of visual whimsy to bring the poem’s magic to life.
