#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Up early, my friend is with us, so we have the pleasure of feeling reunited after long absence. And the day ahead of us. Down the dirt-dusted road in our sandals, the five minute walk to Playa Guiones, and I have the thrill of showing it to her for the first time. It’s bright and hot and wide open and the surfers with their boards are on the beach and in the surf and we walk from one end to the other catching up our lives. The day unfolds with one great pleasure after another. Our friends gather at our casa for the day, in and out, to various activities. I made the decision to take an antibiotic for my ear, and my friend was able to get it easily at the pharmacy. Then, I also had another sublime acupuncture treatment. Clinic open! Everyone who wanted a treatment found a place to lie down in the living room. There was much lovely chatter in the background as I experienced the relaxation and mystery of the needles and the touch and the sensation of opening into healing. My ear has never experienced so much love and attention, and it’s strange for me to have such loving concern focused on my discomfort. I doze off delightfully after my friend skillfully withdraws the needles. Sunset, I have decided, the late afternoon on Playa Guiones when the sun is setting is my favorite magical time of swimming there. After the bright intensity of light from dawn all day, at this time, the surfers fall into silhouette on the surf and a great shadow falls over the shoulders softening the sand and the foam. There was much purpling tonight of the low clouds, the couple that hung incidentally in the sky. We had the most wonderful home cooked meal of Red Snapper fresh from the sea and baked to perfection. We made the feast together from set up to clean up, busy hands and so much chatter and fun. At the table I realize, and say aloud to all: this is our dream from last summer come true, when we said we do this trip all together. And it felt so far away and dreamy. Somehow, somehow despite Covid and so many other challenges, here we are, just as we’d hoped, laughing and talking and playing and relaxing and helping each other. Now, to bed, to wake early for a guided birding tour.
