Moon Setting This Morning at Dawn
The full moon set, at dawn, over the Pacific, and we were there to see it. Up at 5:00 a.m. we gathered with our friends on the beach as planned. Nobody slept in. And to be awake and witness it was splendor as the sun rose in the east behind the trees behind us. Then, when the moon dissolved into the horizon, we hiked a long beach hike, to the same place I hiked yesterday, to the remote spots I found beyond the hills over the rocks. The pounding surf, the morning sunshine. Then my friend and I sat on a smooth huge piece of polished white driftwood and meditated before walking back.
The sun set this evening and we were, once again, on the beach to see it. Frank was waiting for me in his beach chair when I reached the beach to meet him at 5:45 p.m. I jumped right into the surf and swam to the setting sun in the pink and purple water from the reflection of the sky. A darkening over my head and the warm air and the warm water, a foamy, rollicking, sweet evening bathing.
