Morning Brook

The cupboards are bare. Dishes packed away. Refrigerator empty. The kitchen is being transformed. We accomplished a lot this weekend, and have departed. Let the work begin! We have used this kitchen in so many, many happy ways over the last two decades. I walked early and also swam. I wanted to make sure I started my busy day in the best way. And my youngest, who will start her new job tomorrow, came along, which was so nice. I wanted to check in. And we did. And, another birthday party for a dear friend, outdoors, by the fire, before Frank and I settled into our temporary living space for the next couple of weeks. In the late afternoon, before leaving, the special one and I were in the yard and a shower of gold leaves––the last of them clinging––let go in a breeze and Charlie didn’t know what to make of this beautiful spectacle; it startled him, and he barked and barked, and the special one and I smiled.
