#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Shore Birds, Play Los Muertos, Sayulita, Mexico morning

This morning I am awake in the dark before Frank. We make our way through the dark streets for our 7:00 a.m. coffee. The square is bustling with big white vans full of families getting dropped off for the day at the beach! In bathing suits and shorts, carrying coolers and bags of beach toys and babies in their arms, the happy families make their way down the narrow street toward the beach clubs where the chairs sit empty, waiting for the day of sun and fun to begin. Frank loves watching them, loves the idea of this family ritual, everyone included, an all day outing. It’s already hot, humid, and I am also in my bathing suit as we have coffee and banana bread for the last time. It will be light soon, and I will have my own walk, and then we will depart. I take the short walk my brother and I took yesterday, after leaving Frank, and go to see Playa Los Muertos, a beach up a hill by a cemetery overlooking the sea. There are only one or two families here. Some white blowfish dead on the sand. The birds on the rocks. The calm waves. Then I walk back to the beach in front of our hotel and have a fine, long walk. The surf is calm, but there are a few surfers. I find, at the end of the beach, a quiet spot in the sand and sit for 15 minutes meditating to the sounds of the surf, enjoying a light breeze. The sun grows hotter and hotter on my shoulders. Ah, I will miss this walk. Frank meets me for a final swim. Oh, it’s hard to get out! My brother and his family have decided to extend their stay for one day, so we go off in the van for the airport on our own. We grow eager to be home. There is a little one who is having a birthday, and he is what is on our mind and in our vision.
