Minute Man Trail, Concord, MA
2 September 1841. Concord, Mass.
Thoreau writes in his journal:
I saw a green meadow in the midst of the woods to-day which looked as if dame nature had set her foot there, and it had bloomed in consequence. It was the print of her moccasin

Oh, the humidity today, waking up, going for a run with my youngest. A short one, as it turns out, in the woods. We very quickly overheated. Still, it was a great day to be outdoors, as August weekends are numbered. We put the bikes on the car and drove to Concord, to the Minute Man Trail, It’s a wonderful trail through meadows and fields and historic markers of the Revolutionary War. Once again, it was pretty, pretty, well, too hot. I couldn’t get my core cool. We fell in love with the trail, but turned back. Drove for a swim at Farm Pond. Ahhhhh. That was the cooling refreshment I needed. I swam around the island through spots of cold and hot in the late afternoon. And I worked for a bit this morning on the new poem, getting a new revision. Still wondering about it. I picked all the cherry tomatoes in a basket and all the ripe tomatoes so that tomorrow, during the storm, I can roast the cherries and prep the large ones for freezing. Tomatoes in the winter to thaw and feel nourished by the taste of summer.
