Weather report is doubtful about rain, possibly late afternoon? It’s cloudy, I water, all the necessaries. Every vegetable, seen and unseen, every flower, in the vegetable garden, and the happy swamp milkweed, in pink pink bloom. It’s cool, pleasant. Oh, wait––it’s pouring! All the wet things get soaked, and it’s good for them. And good for me. I take a quick run in the woods letting my skin get soaked and frosty in the rain, my feet slap-happy through trail puddles. Oh, the blue flag iris is drenched in the greenery of the slush wetlands at the brook. Charlie, my companion, he’s willing to be drenched. I towel him well when we get home. And rain all day, so nice. I have swerved in my reading: decided, before the Louise Erdrich on Audible, to read a hardcover I purchased a year ago: The Luminaries, by Eleanor Catton, a winner of the Man-Booker prize. It feels heartening to have a big heavy book in my hands at bedtime. Tonight I am so pleased with the feedback I get on the poem from the letters that I share at Monday workshop. I hope to get a draft of an entirely new poem for Thursday workshop. I stopped at the garden again after my run, in the rain, and planted beet seeds in one of the boxes Frank prepared. I never knew I loved beets until I tried them. Will they come up?
