Monday after Easter, and a wind whips up. I leave our property and walk in Rocky Narrows. My eyes are scanning the trail for purple violets I wish to see poking up out of the brown dead leaves. No violets, but a pink plastic egg, cracked open, gummy bears tucked inside. I pick it up, not because I’ll eat the candy, but just for luck, and so the plastic doesn’t get left behind. How nice that someone had their hunt in Rocky Narrows. Soon enough, there will be colorful wildflowers all along this path. I have a busy day and night, and now, to bed especially tired, but so grateful for Monday night poetry workshop; and for finding beauty in these woods, in all weather and season. The hardwoods are budding. I look up.
